AccreditationsAgencies Certifying Genetic Technologies

ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board

ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB), formerly Forensic Quality Services (FQS) is the longest established provider of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditations to forensic testing agencies in the United States.

ANAB is a full member and signatory of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and Inter American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC).

Our forensic biology full external audit was performed by ANAB Forensic Accreditation Program in October 2011.  Genetic Technologies, Inc. was  assessed in 2011 against all requirements of:

  • ISO/IEC 17025:2005
  • Forensic Requirements for Accreditation (FRA-1:2008/1 and FRAG-5:2009/1)
  • The latest FBI Quality Assurance Standards
  • Our own stringent management system.

Each year since 2011 the ANAB has audited Genetic Technologies, Inc. to assure continued compliance.  On November 8th, 2016, Genetic Technologies, Inc. elected not to renew our accreditation with ANAB. However, we still maintain the FBI Quality Assurance Standards and external proficiency testing cycles, equipment calibrations, and stringent management system which has been fine-tuned during GTI’s two decades of forensic biology testing experience.

In 2015 Genetic Technologies, Inc. requested an expansion of scope for our ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation to include DNA Analysis in Relatedness and Immigration casework.   Genetic Technologies, Inc. was assessed against Industry Standards and granted the ANAB Scope Expansion that now includes Relatedness and Immigration Testing.  During this accreditation process the following laboratory operations were assessed:

  • Analytical Procedures
  • Quality Assurance
  • Analyst Training
  • Proficiency Testing
  • Relevant Validations

This higher level International Relatedness and Immigration Testing Accreditation  supplanted the fee based AABB Accreditation.

American Association of Blood Banks

The AABB’s Parentage Testing Accreditation is a fee based program for DNA paternity testing laboratories. The program has established standards of testing quality for parentage testing. The U.S. State Department regrettably requires laboratories to submit to this fee based accreditation process tailored to high volume facilities as a requisite for U.S. State Department Casework.

Genetic Technologies, Inc. remained continuously accredited by the AABB through 2014. We declined to renew (purchase) this accreditation despite the fact an unannounced AABB onsite audit of our practices and facility warranted the issuance of an AABB Accreditation Certificate valid through 2016.

State of New York Department of Health

The NYSDOH certification permits laboratories to perform DNA tests on cases originating from New York. NYSDOH rigorously inspects the entire testing service, including processes performed outside the lab, such as chain of custody and patient referrals. GTI is one of the few AABB-accredited laboratories that also possess the prestigious NYSDOH certification.

American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors

The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board is an accreditation program for forensic DNA laboratories.

We maintained ASCLD/LAB-International Accreditation from February 2007 through February 2012 but elected not to renew for a subsequent accreditation cycle.

Our full external audit was performed by ASCLD/LAB-International in December 2006. Genetic Technologies, Inc. was originally assessed in 2006 against all requirements of:

  • ISO/IEC 17025:2005
  • ASCLD/LAB-International Supplemental Requirements (2006)
  • Quality Assurance Standards for Forensic DNA Testing Laboratories
  • Quality Assurance Standards for Convicted Offender DNA Data-basing
  • Laboratories (FBI DNA Audit Document-2004)
  • Our own stringent management system.
